According to an in-depth study, it has been found that most of the famous airlines will automatically put you with the people you booked with, even if you don’t pay extra. That is, you will save money and continue sharing a flight with your chosen company.
They will place you next to him without paying
In the investigation, a purchase was made simulating that four people would travel on a British Airways flight from London to Tenerife. If standard seats were chosen, the cost was £112; and if they wanted a little more legroom, the total came out to 192 pounds. However, it is estimated that 94% of the customers of this airline did not pay to choose the seats and ended up sitting with their fellow travelers anyway.
Similarly, 93% of travelers confirmed that it is likely that EasyJet will also seat you next to your family member without paying the added cost, which is around 6-8 euros. Another famous company, Jet2, boasts that 90% of its travelers did not pay for seat selection either, with prices of 10-13 euros more, and they were able to go with their family member. You would have to have bad luck to belong to the 10% that have to go separately. However, this also depends on the times in which you travel. In low season it could be easier because there are more free places and less demand for groups.
Doesn’t happen on Ryanair
However, the chances of being separated on a flight are higher if Ryanair is chosen. The study reveals that only 66 percent of the passengers of this company ended up together, without paying the supplement for the choice of seat. Its price is not a small feat, since it amounts to almost 20 euros for choosing a standard seat.
Obviously, companies do not have the legal obligation to put you together with your companion if you do not pay the added cost, even if they are children. Both toddlers and infants accompanied by adults would need to be seated in the same row of seats. However, if this is not possible, children should not be separated by more than one row from their accompanying adults.
Still, the research is positive, revealing that most airlines will automatically seat you next to your travel companion. In the case of Ryanair, it will be the adult who has to pay for the selection of seats, to choose to be next to the minor.
So, in a nutshell, most travelers are wasting their money when they pay for seat selection on the plane. Keep in mind that although choosing a seat costs about 10 euros, the total sum of a group could amount to more than 100 euros in total. If you want to be proactive, don’t predetermine where you want to sit and let the company do it for you. In case of bad luck, taking a trip in another seat is not a problem either. In addition, in many circumstances there are travelers who will be willing to change your seat.
With this study it is evident that most flight companies will almost always accommodate you with your travel companions, even if you do not pay; the only real exception to this rule is Ryanair.
