Telefónica will deploy more 5G, but not as you imagined: there will be more private networks for companies

Over the next three years, Telefónica and Nokia will focus on the deployment and development of private 5G networks for Spanish companies. To do so, they have signed a strategic agreement with which they seek to implement up to 100 digitalisation solutions in the cloud, private mobile networks and edge computing with 5G connection.

From now on, Telefónica and Nokia have a new alliance for the next three years with which they intend to make the industry evolve towards a 4.0 model. And, of course, they also want to accelerate the digital transformation of the different companies in Spain in an easier and faster way.

Three years of alliance

This new agreement is being signed with the aim of giving Spanish companies access to up to 100 different Nokia solutions. All of them related to digitalisation in the cloud, private mobile networks, edge computing for industry and industrial devices. An alliance that will take place over the next three years.

This series of unique services that they intend to offer within the Spanish business environment will be supported by the Telefónica network. In this way, the operator will be able to contribute its experience and also its different resources as a national operator, as well as its consultancy and maintenance. Without forgetting that its Big Data capacity and IoT connectivity will also be available through Telefónica Tech.

To enhance cutting-edge technology

Adrián García-Nevado, Director of Business at Telefónica Spain, says: “This collaboration with Nokia is in line with our vision of empowering the industry with cutting-edge technology in a new era in which Artificial Intelligence and the use of data mark the way forward. This strategy is preceded by more than 90 use cases with real clients to explore the capabilities of 5G.”

For his part, Rolf Albrecht, European Head of Enterprise Campus Edge Business at Nokia, explains: “This exciting collaboration with Telefónica will continue to enable companies to pave the way towards digitalisation. Our private wireless and On-Premise Edge Computing solutions are designed to meet the mission-critical needs of asset-intensive industries, providing them with benefits beyond connectivity, including increased worker safety and reduced emissions, according to our latest 2024 report for industrial digitalisation.”

The advancement of 5G in private networks

5G technology allows for greater interconnection of smart devices. This also makes it easier to collect, monitor and analyse business-relevant data in real time. In this way, private networks that rely on this mobile connection will guarantee quality of service through the mobile network “by prioritising communications”.

Manufacturing, ports and logistics industries will be able to make a real leap forward by including 5G wireless communication in each of their processes. In this way, thanks to private networks, this series of processes can be automated, optimising the resources of companies and facilitating cost reduction. In the same way, an improvement in the quality of the product and its different services can be achieved.
